Have you ever wanted to make a difference within the community you live in and for those who are unable to speak or defend themselves? Sharjah Cat and Dog Shelter (Scads) may be able to help. The shelter is holding its first Family Fun Day or Open Day on Friday, November 5, from 11am to 3pm.
The goal is to create awareness through UAE society about the importance of animal welfare, both on an individual and governmental level.
As a government-supported education and animal-assisted therapeutic treatment centre, Scads is making strides forward but needs the help of the community.
By extending support, people can prove they are part of the solution. By participating, you can show that the UAE community believes in the importance of protecting those who are unable to speak for themselves.
Scads has organised much to see and do on the upcoming Open Day. Animal-lovers can view the Sharjah Police dog display team and birds of prey, and also enjoy pony rides from the Equestrian Club. For shopaholics, there are market stalls selling products for yourself and your pets. For ‘culture vultures' there is a heritage tent, with henna and local food items. For people who just need a break from the same old routine, there is a big park and dog-walking track to tire out both the kids and their four-legged friends so that you can get at least one peaceful night this year!
The beauty of the day is that it is outdoors, free and a refreshing change from the usual mall-hopping and traffic-queuing.
