Dubai:  Advocate Eisa Bin Haider has been honoured by the Ministry of Justice for paying for airline tickets for 102 inmates, who could not travel for financial reasons.

The Ministry of Justice's Director General Chancellor Mohammad Bin Hamad Al Badi yesterday presented a special token to Bin Haidar for being the Ministry's "Distinguished Partner".

The Ministry honoured Bin Haider in recognition of his sincere efforts in spreading the legal awareness, as well as of his outstanding performance in serving the judicial sector and society.

His recognition came in light of his recent initiative to pay around Dh140,000 covering the cost of 102 airline tickets for 102 inmates who had completed their imprisonments but remained in Dubai Central Jail because they couldn't afford their return tickets.

Destitute

Bin Haider, a practising lawyer since 1997, told Gulf News: "The inmates are from different nationalities including Asians and Africans… the destitute situation of those inmates has forbidden them from affording the cost of their return tickets. The consulates and embassies of some of those inmates also couldn't help them. I thank the Justice Ministry officials for this recognition and which comes in light of my efforts to spread legal awareness amongst the society."

Bin Haider also said the honour recognises his efforts in spreading legal education and knowledge through his weekly radio show The Spirit of Law which is broadcast on Noor Dubai.
